As our friends at The Womxn Project explain:
A right is not real if people can’t access or afford that right. Right now, state employees and people who use Medicaid are told that their insurance plan won’t cover abortion.
Everyone deserves to have the health care they need at a cost they can afford – and that includes being able to obtain an abortion.
Senator Bridget Valverde and Representative Liana Cassar are sponsors of the Equality in Abortion Coverage Act (S.0267/H.5787).
The Equality in Abortion Coverage Act (“EACA”) will eliminate:
The ban that withholds health insurance coverage for abortion in the state Medicaid program and associated plans, and
The denial of coverage for abortion in the state employees’ health insurance.
The RI Democratic Women's Caucus will bring you up to date as much as we can on this legislation as it makes its way through the RI legislature. We also strongly urge you to follow The Womxn Project and be sure to join their list, as they organize action items you can take in support of the EACA.
