The Women's Caucus Condemns the Speaker for Comments RI History & Racial Injustice Comments

June 19, 2020 - The RIDWC condemns the RI speaker of the house for his ignorant comments in regard to the existence of slavery in Rhode Island, on of all days, #JuneteenthDay

Time and time again, be it the denial of white privilege and climate change or the refusal to address sexual harassment in his own House, the current Speaker has demonstrated that he is unfit for office.

When people show us who they are, we believe them. We believe this speaker to be willfully ignorant, sexist, and above all unworthy of holding elected office.

We join with all the voices calling for his resignation, but especially with those who voted against his leadership in the first place and faced retribution. Speaker Matiello must resign.
